The House Competition has started the year off with a bang! As a result of the first assembly, Gratia is in the lead with 31 points. Temperentia follows close behind with 29. Tied for 3rd is Dignitas and Virtus. Caritas comes next, with Gaudium at the bottom. However, these rankings are bound to change with the current competition.
At the moment, St.Dominic is hosting their annual House Competition. This is a chance for the freshmen to get involved with their family, upperclassmen, and house. Other grade levels will participate alongside the freshmen. The idea for this competition came from our very own HOH’s.
“So we made the three teams great enough that some of the students in the family had to join to make the freshman feel more comfortable,” HOH Madelyn Wagner said.
This year’s competition has 3 categories: artistic, athletic, and academic. There will be separate challenges for each of these sections. These elements were chosen to appeal to the common talents that the freshmen would have.
“With the three categories, every student has their strengths, so we wanted to incorporate different categories that may interest all of the freshmen,” HOH Madelyn Wagner said.
Like usual, the families within a house will compete against each other first. The family that comes out on top, will represent the house. That family will then proceed to the final, and compete for house points.
The artistic competition was given the task of redecorating their House Crest. They were given a limited number of days, and could only work on it during family time. This segment’s champion will be decided by a vote.
“As a house, you will be voting on which one will win. This vote will be taking place on Thursday,” Mrs. Baker said.
The academic teams have completed the first round of competition, completing a short test while being timed. The team with the fastest time and the most accurate answers won. The final for the academic teams are this Friday.
Joining the academic teams on Friday, is the athletic teams. In the first round of the athletic competition, the students were to carry a ping-pong ball on a spoon across the gym and back. It is not yet known what the task will be for the final.
The total number of points for winning the House Competition is 30. These points are split among the three types of competition, which allows for more opportunity to earn them. The House Competition is a great opportunity for the freshman to become comfortable in their house, and lead it to victory.
