With the end of fall sports, comes the beginning of winter sports. Winter sports consist of boys and girls basketball, girls swim&dive and hockey. Athletes and fans are gearing up for the exciting new seasons.
Boys basketball just had their jamboree against Pattonville, Lutheran North and Troy. The team is almost identical as last year. The only change is a few seniors graduating and two new players on the team. The boys will start their season on December first in the Troy tournament.
“I’m most excited this season to make memories and to get better every day,” junior basketball player Grant Giesmann said.
The Girls basketball team also just had their jamboree. They faced off against Owensville, MICDS and Park Hills. Their first game is against Sullivan on November 25th. Along with this first game, the team will be showcasing their new uniforms. The team is filled with upperclassmen, so the maturity of the team and leadership should lead to an impressive season.
“I’m most excited for game nights and getting to compete with my team every week,” junior basketball player Peyton Roberts.
The next winter sport is hockey. It started with their first game being on November first. Their current record is 1-2-1, with their first win coming in their last game against Fort Zumalt North. The team is looking for another win against their next opponent Fort Zumalt East.
“My favorite part of the season has been hanging out with my teammates before and after the games. I’m looking forward to the playoffs because we have a good chance to win state this year,” junior hockey player Blake Evans said.
The Girls swim and dive team are taking a new approach this year. Starting soon they will practice before school rather than after. Their first meet of the season is on December third. Hopefully the girls team can have a successful season.
“I’m looking most forward to senior night and doing senior banners, I’m also excited for the FZN invite because it’s always a fun meet at the beginning of January,” senior swimmer Amelia Martin said.
The St. Dominic community can’t wait to see what these athletes can accomplish. These athletes have a bright future in their sports. Winter sports have a variety of sports to watch, so for fans this will be a fun winter.
