On Monday, October 20th, and Tuesday, October 21st, Saint Dominic’s Girls Golf team was away at state. This came after the team won first place at districts, qualifying them for the state games. In the end, seniors Lily Seydel, Elaina Neiters, Bella Daniels, and juniors Sophia Bezdek, and Abby Carney won the team 5th place at state. Coaches Arrell and Doc Dan Matusiak were incredibly proud and impressed by these girls.
“The girls always seem to be, you know, nervously excited. You know, it’s a big deal, they all want to do their best. So, you know, the pressure is on, but it’s up to, you know, all of us to, you know, remain calm and focus on the goal and take it one shot at a time,”Coach Arrell said.
Girls Golf is a fall sport, starting at the beginning of the school year, however the girls were working just as hard at state as they had been since the start of the season.
“For the most part, during the regular season, the girls just play 9 holes. And every now and then, we play a tournament that’s 18.
So back to back days of 18 holes are tough for the girls,” … “Just trying to get them mentally prepared and mentally ready and just making sure that they get enough to eat, they get enough sleep, you know, try to make sure that they’re feeling the best,” Coach Arrell said.
No girl on the team was better than the other. As a team, they work together great, but they all have their own individual strengths that helped bring them to winning state.
“I mean, they’re all superb ladies and they’re all awesome. Abby Carney has been working her tail off all year. You know, Bella Daniels, Lily Seydel, you know, they’ve all blown me away,” Coach Arrell said.
The school is so proud of how far the girls have come. Good job girls and good luck in the rest of the school year!
