Over the winter St. Dominic purchased a white charter bus that will transfer students to retreats, sporting events, and more. The bus will undoubtedly improve Dominic’s transportation system, because rather than waiting on bus companies, they will be able to transport students themselves.
The bus is a great addition to St. Dominic, and many students are both surprised and excited about the new home-owned transportation.
“I think the new bus is a great investment to the St. Dominic community. I was very surprised when I pulled into school and saw it,” senior Olivia Orr said.
In the past, St. Dominic has had trouble with certain bus companies. Getting a bus that’s large enough to carry students around is tough. Additionally, issues have occurred where bus companies have not shown up to pick up students. After considering these issues, administrators realized buying a bus would solve numerous issues and likewise save the day.
“I definitely really like the idea of the bus, especially when it comes to having to travel away from school to retreats. We never have to worry about being late anymore,” sophomore Alia Warren said.
When buying a bus, St. Dominic considered many options but ultimately chose to purchase a white charter bus. It is no secret that St. Dominic students enjoy riding in style and with this bus, they are able to do just that! The bus seats around 50 individuals and will mainly carry around sports teams, but also retreat groups too.
“I personally love having a charter bus, and very grateful that I get the opportunity to ride on a big bus with AC then a yellow school bus,” senior Amelia Reeves said.
Although the bus might be St. Dominic’s largest purchase in terms of transportation, last year St. Dominic also bought a large van. After receiving the van, St. Dominic used it to their advantage, as smaller groups such as Mock Trial, Peer Ministry, and Cross Country used it multiple times. After the van became successful, St. Dominic administrators knew buying a bus would become useful too.
“The van was also a great purchase, I really liked it. Especially when it came to leaving for retreats, we had a quick an easy way of leaving,” senior Atticus Wimes said.
When the bus was first purchased it was plain white and boring. Knowing it needed a change, administration sent it off to be “wrapped”. Upon its quick return, the bus sported the words “St. Dominic” and had Dominics logo on both sides. There is no doubt, others schools will recognize the bus instantly, as its another symbol of what St. Dominic stands for.
“I love all of the colors and the St. Dominic logo addition,” senior Izzy Stockmann said.
The St. Dominic bus was both a want and necessity. It showcases St. Dominic’s growth over the years. Already, the bus will soon pay off, as St. Dominic students and athletes anticipate riding on the school’s new transportation method.
