The Struggles of Senioritis

Springtime is most difficult time for seniors suffering from senioritis

Senioritis is spreading. Senioritis is when seniors start losing motivation to complete assignments or even attend school. This is because most seniors already know what they are going to do after school, so they do not see a point in finishing out this step since they know what’s next.

Senioritis started affecting me on my first day of freshman year. I have found it so hard to stay motivated to come into school. I knew what I would be doing after high school since 8th grade so finding the will to do assignments and come to school was hard. I have missed 194 total days of school these past four years, so I am an expert at it at this point. This proves that I often don’t come in simply because there is no motivation. I have one of the worst cases of senioritis at St. Dominic without a doubt.

Seniors each year tend to have the lowest attendance rates compared to every other grade in high school. Seniors mentally clock out before the year is actually over. However, little do they know that this is one of the most important times during their school careers. The very end of a high schooler’s senior year is a huge test for them to see if they have the motivation to finish out strong, or if they are going to let excuses like procrastination and senioritis take over.

Seniors, this is a great opportunity for you to take full advantage of your last days as a high school student. Be at school. Show up to class. Put all of the work in to fully prepare yourself for the life you have planned after high school. If we put in the work now, there is no telling how thankful we will be in the future. Even though it can seem impossible, it all starts with showing up.
