Last Friday, St. Dominic’s Viri Dei put on their annual talent show! In its fifth year, it showed off some amazing talent than never seen before, and gave back to a great charity.

Auditions for the talent show took place on April 13, and were open to all four grades. Those who made the cut gave it their all at 7pm in the PAC and impressed us all.

In third place came Quint Gholson, who played a deep blues tune on his guitar. Second place was won by sisters Claire and Caroline Cunningham, who gave a beautiful Spanish duet—Claire played the piano and Caroline sang. First place was awarded to John Gil, who performed an original song on his guitar. They were all truly astounding acts, showcasing the plethora of talent we have at St. Dominic!

“I really enjoyed performing with my sister for the talent show, because I know she’s so talented and it felt really special doing something together. But overall I’m just so proud of her because she was so nervous about performing, and she learned the piano piece in one week. She did so amazing,” Caroline Cunningham said.

As mentioned above, the talent show was put on by Viri Dei, a club at St. Dominic made up of senior boys with strong faith. Moderated by engineering teacher and student in the Permanent Diaconate Formation Program Mr. Bob Hennekes, the group put in a lot of hard work to make this show happen.

“They put it all on themselves. I’m just their shepherd, guiding and advising. Everyone did a truly wonderful job,” Mr. Hennekes said.
The amazing work of the performers and the Viri Dei crew created a remarkable show that was a fantastic experience for the entire audience.

“It was super fun to watch! I went last year, and the performances somehow keep getting better and better,” junior Molly Albrecht said.
Admission to the talent show cost $5, and all of the proceeds will go to Our Lady’s Inn in Defiance. Our Lady’s Inn is a women’s shelter who provide shelter, support and love to women in crisis pregnancies. It is a wonderful organization with a beautiful mission, and every dollar counts.

The talent show was a resounding success for Viri Dei, the audience, the performers and the folks down at Our Lady’s Inn. We can’t see what next year’s show will have in store!
