Service is one of the four pillars here at St. Dominic, and senior Luke Pescarino is a true embodiment of that sacrificial nature. Pescarino was recognized for his commitment to service, and was named a member of the 2018 Missouri Football Coaches Association Hands Team. The MFCA Hands Team is comprised of players who make great contributions in the areas of volunteerism and civic involvement and who exemplify the spirit of teamwork.

Pescarino was one of seven student-athletes in the state of Missouri named to the MFCA Hands Team. After coaching Pescarino for four years in both track and football, Coach Blake Markway can attest to Pescarino’s commitment to service and betterment of the community. Coach Markway nominated Pescarino for his great attitude not only on the field but off the field as well.

“Luke immediately came to mind so when the nominations came up in the summer and Luke continued to prove his worth over the offseason, there was no doubt he would represent our team as an excellent choice for this award,” Coach Markway said.

Pescarino has been a part of the football program since his freshman year. Along with four years of football under his belt, he is also a four-year member of the track team, a peer minister and Vice-Chancellor of Viri Dei.

Recognition as a member of the Hands Team came as a surprise to Pescarino, but he was humbled by the opportunity to represent St. Dominic.

“I was really excited when I found out that I made the Hands Team. Service has always been a fulfilling part of my life, and I’m honored to be able to represent my team. I’m thankful for Coach Markway for nominating me and supporting me throughout my time here,” Pescarino said.

After a season cut short due to a leg injury, winning the award was the perfect end to Pescarino’s football career. The St. Dominic community and Crusader football program are incredibly proud of Pescarino for his accomplishment and know he will continue to do great things in his community.
