Baseball is in full swing this year, and the team is having a great season so far. The boys currently have a record of 11 wins and five losses. The team has had some big successes, including wins over Creighton Preparatory and Father Tolton. All of this would not be possible without star senior pitcher, Evan Luke.

Evan is currently a third year varsity member for St. Dominic. Unfortunately, he was hurt in his first sophomore game due to a sprained UCL in his elbow. This put Evan out for the majority of his sophomore season. Even with this unfortunate event, he did not let this stop him from being great.

During Evan’s recovery he gave it his all to get back on the field. He knew in his heart that is where it was supposed to be and he needed to be back and playing. Luke was determined to get better and be ready for his Junior year. Through a lot of hard and taxing work he found the finish line to recovery. Evan was back and ready for his next high school season. He did not disappoint. He played like there was no injury and gave it all to his team.

“Coming back from a big injury is hard but I did not let that be a setback for me,” Luke said.

Junior season for Evan was successful, and senior season is even better. Evan pitched at big games this season including Winfield, Sluh, Westminster, and Ladue. During the Winfield game, Evan pitched a complete game. He has been leading the team this year by being an example towards the younger players.

“I’ve loved my senior season so far because I’ve had the experience to lead my teammates and have fun,” Evan said.

This past May, Evan made his commitment to University Central Missouri. Evan is looking forward to attending UCM in fall because of their coaching staff, and great winning program. He couldn’t have done it without some of his biggest inspirations and help in life. Along with his mom, Evan is also supported by his dad and two sisters.

“My inspiration comes from my mom, she’s taught me so much and is an example of being a good human being,” Evan said.

After finishing up his senior season at Dominic, Evan plans on playing for a summer team called the Adidas A’s, a local collegiate summer team. In the fall, Evan will be studying nursing at UCM. Although sad his time at Dominic is almost over, he is excited about the future of his baseball career.
