April is here, which means another chapter of history at the legendary Augusta National golf course. Last year’s tournament played out like a movie, concluding in overtime with longtime legend Rory Mcilroy getting his first Masters win, completing the career grand slam.
Mcilroy is back this year looking to defend his title and be the first person to win back to back masters since Tiger Woods in 2001-2002. However, it will not be easy when the field is stacked with superstars. Two time champion Scottie Scheffler has returned, and fan favorite Bryson Dechambeau is back for redemption after a collapse last year.
One of the most interesting stories coming into this tournament is that of Brandon Holtz, a 39 year old realtor who was a division one basketball player before taking up professional golf. After struggling in the lower leagues of pro golf Brandon decided to give up his dream and became a realtor to help provide for his family. After spending years as a realtor, he decided to give golf another chance. Brandon won the 2025 US amateur open, granting him a spot in the 2026 masters tournament.
One of the things that makes the masters tournament the best, is the fact that there are so many ways for fans to enjoy the event. In person, they make the event feel private by preventing cell phones creating a more connected experience for the patrons at the tournament. For viewers at home, the broadcast is one of the better ones you will see in sports and the amount of storylines and moments to follow keep viewers engaged throughout.
“My favorite part of watching the masters is the final push on Sunday. Seeing the leaderboard shift around with late pushes and collapses is very fun to watch,” junior Nolan Struckmann said.
The history and mystique of the masters creates an exciting event that even people that aren’t fans of the sport can watch. And thanks to the exclusive free masters app, fans can easily access the event. Possibly too easy as many at school or work get distracted by watching the tournament.
