Core Night

Core night resulted in a success after a Dominic win

The annual St. Dominic Volleyball Core night was a success. To put a cherry on top of the night, the varsity squad came out with a win, against Lutheran St. Charles.

To elaborate on what Core night is, it is a night where the players from the local Core Volleyball Club come and watch a St. Dominic volleyball game. The connection between the two is that the club directors for Core, are also the head coaches for the Crusader Varsity Volleyball team. These two coaches are Courtney Bland, and Maggie Allen, who are sisters as well. This is truly a dynamic duo of sisters.

The littles sure enjoyed their night, they all got T-Shirts and had a blast watching their favorite team. The JV team led the cheers during the varsity game, and the littles would follow. This was definitely a core memory for them.

“Core night this year was very special for me because I used to be a little girl in the stands watching the varsity players. I aspired to be them one day, and being on the court was a full circle moment,” Junior Taylor Holdmeier said.

That night the freshman, JV, and varsity all took a win against Lutheran St. Charles. Freshman dominated in both sets taking away any hope of winning for the opposing team. The JV team also had a little bit of a nail biter. They had the lead for the majority of the game, and soon came close in points to each other in the second set. Varsity had a good night, beating the Cougars in four sets, and demolishing them in the fourth.

The exciting night was filled with fun and some surprises. The stands were packed from top to bottom with Core players of many different ages. All of which were ecstatic to watch the varsity team ball out. There were also some Homecoming uprisings at the end of the game. Three homecoming proposals were made at the end of the game. One of which was yours truly Cooper Smith who asked junior Cami Kohmetscher.

“I knew he was going to ask me soon and he made it very special by putting it onto a livestream of a volleyball game,” Kohmetcher said.

So many emotions jam packed into one night but it all ended amazingly! Some new memories were made, and even more to come for this team.
