House competitions are a key aspect of St Dominic’s community. It brings the entire student body together through fun and games. The current competition, the hallway decoration contest, is a winter favorite among the students who can’t wait to see who will emerge victorious.

Each house has a unique theme based off of a classic Christmas movie for their designated hallway. The list goes: Temperentia- The Grinch, Gratia- Frosty the Snowman, Dignitas- Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, Caritas- A Christmas Carol, Virtus- A Christmas Story, Gaudium- Christmas Vacation.

The winter of the contest gets 25 points, meaning any house can take 1st place. Hallways are buzzing with excitement with students and teachers trying to quickly decorate their hallway in time. Someone who enjoys this aspect is Mrs. Goins, who is in House Temperantia.

“My favorite part is seeing the creativity. I think that people think of some really creative ideas. I like that people work together for a common good. It’s a good group project,” Mrs. Goins said.

Another teacher who enjoys decorating the hallways is House Dignitas’s Mr. Moore, who embraces the festivities of the holiday season.

“I love it because it helps tie together our community. It really helps us to emphasize the Christmas season, it makes it feel like we’re getting through the semester,” Mr. Moore said.

Decorating our hallways gives students a chance to let their creativity shine, and our artistic students are seizing this opportunity to make the hallways look the best they can. Mrs. Juergensmeyer, who’s in house Gratia, loves his aspect of the contest

“I like how it includes a lot of students who don’t always get to be included in the competitions. They like to do the creative behind the scenes stuff so this is perfect for them,” Mrs. Juergensmeyer said.

The hallway decorating contest is an exciting competition with a big payout of 25 points. St. Dominic students cannot wait to see who the winner will be, and whose hard work could really pay off.
