The crusaders are working hard to prepare for district games coming up.

After several months the spring sports season is wrapping up, but for the varsity girls soccer team, varsity girls lacrosse, varsity boys baseball and varsity boys and girls track the postseason has just begun.

The various teams have been training hard for districts the past couple weeks, but the postseason promises many distractions as the end of the school year approaches.

“This time of year poses many potential distractions with graduation and exams. Our approach to districts and postseason is to enjoy our soccer while seeing the fruits of the process emerge. We need a laser focus each and every game. Our team is driven and hungry,” varsity soccer coach Greg Koeller said.

While soccer is crushing it on the pitch, our lacrosse team is setting up for a different type of districts. Because there is not a Missouri State High School Activities Association for lacrosse, teams do not play a typical districts set-up, and they are seeded directly into the State competition. As of now, the girls are ranked 19th in the state with promising odds for the first round.

Unlike lacrosse, our varsity baseball boys are gearing up for a “typical” type of districts. As they are 11-10, playing with difficult competition has set them up for success at districts. The other teams and games will be intense, so having this background and being flexible will hopefully benefit them in the postseason.

The postseason is approaching fast for the varsity girls and boys track teams as well. Track and field is an interesting sport as it is both individual and team, so Coach Markway has been working on developing an “unselfish mindset” for the team.

“This team is very motivated to be successful together. It is really special and unique for track, which is often seen as an individual sport, to take so much pride in earning points for the team and not just medals for the individual. With that unselfish mindset, beyond the physical preparation, that is the most important aspect that is driving this team in the postseason,” Markway said.

The St. Dominic spring sports teams have been working hard in order to achieve the best postseason outcome possible. The St. Dominic community could not be more proud of our athletes, and we cannot wait to see what they will accomplish in the weeks to come.
