This Monday and Tuesday at Rolla High School, many St. Dominic students competed at the HOSA state leadership conference. This was an opportunity for HOSA students from all over Missouri to compete in multiple competitions, all while showing off their exceptional medical skills.
HOSA, an organization for high school students who plan to be future health care professionals, serves to promote leadership and education for students in health fields. Annual competitions are hosted every fall and spring, with the latest one hosted March 23rd and 24th. The event was huge and their largest showing ever, featuring nearly 3,000 students from 111 schools. St. Dominic had a great performance overall, with strong placements in many events all while putting their medical and leadership skills to the test. 9 of 12 students advanced in the competitions for forensic investigation and PSA.
For the PSA category, St. Dominic seniors Emily Soval, Jodi Grobbe, Ava Grossman, and Kylie Cyr secured a podium finish. These students’ video and presentation on brain health won them third place.
”It was an awesome experience to get to go to Rolla and compete against all of these great students from so many schools. It took a lot of preparation and it meant a lot to us to see our hard work pay off,” senior Ava Grossman said.
In addition, St. Dominic also did well in forensic investigation. Seniors Caitleen Doriman and Kaitlyn Tuepker won fourth place. These students were quizzed to test their knowledge on the subject and had to complete a case study.
Many other students were also recognized, including Seniors Caden Kannady and Gabby Keithely in the behavioral health and human growth and development categories respectively. Every student gained skills that will help them to be leaders in their future careers.
Everyone at St. Dominic is proud of these students and their accomplishments at Rolla this week! A huge shout out to everyone who made this event possible, and good luck to all those who have advanced.
