At St. Dominic everyone knows Mr. Welby and the smile he brings to our campus every single day, rain or shine. What many don’t know about him is the amazing foundation he runs, in memory of his daughter, outside of his time spent at school. The Maggie Welby Foundation has just recently celebrated its 21st anniversary of providing financial help to children, families, and other organizations in need who are struggling.
This foundation was created in honor of Maggie Welby by continuing her spirit of helping others and making a positive impact on kids’ lives. This Foundation strives to help children to be able to experience as much life as Maggie Welby. Her family and friends who created this memorial fund aspire to continue her legacy as well as memory to make a life changing impact in another family’s life.
“We as a family decided to start this foundation to keep her memory alive and to keep her a part of our lives everyday. But we also figured that out of something so awful that happened to our family we wanted to make something good out of it,” President Jim Welby said.
This incredible foundation offers scholarships for students from Kindergarten through 12th grade who demonstrate financial need. These Scholarships are to help with things like school tuition and many others. These scholarships are an extension of Maggie’s love to help kids in need.
This foundation also provides grants to help families with things like bills, medical expenses, or youth activities when they can’t seem to come up with the financial needs. Grants are given directly to the families and are paid to the organization that will use the funds on their behalf.
Beyond scholarships and grants, it also supports groups and activities that benefit children’s well-being. One grant that this foundation has recently been a part of was to help fund a salary for a teacher that would work with child patients in the Cardinal Glennon Hospital to make sure they still have the resources to learn while they get the treatment they need.
