With the start of February, the quiz bowl is back at St. Dominic, with new teams wanting revenge from last year and a team wanting to bounce back from a winning season. With all family times being represented by a freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior. All houses and families prepare to answer all types of questions for this quiz bowl, for one family to reign above the rest.

“I am competing for my family in the quiz bowl. I think my advantage is definitely sports. I can answer really any sports question, and my other peers can answer the trivia ones I don’t really know,” junior Dom Campana said.

Campana’s family, Farwig/Wilson/Vandeven, that represents the house of Gaudium, got in third place last year, wanting to bounce back this year and get first place for Gaudium. They are in the Service section of the quiz bowl this year, which is split among our four pillars at St. Dominic: Prayer, Study, Community, and Service.

“My family is ready to compete for another title. I think we got this again this year. We won last year, and I think we can do it again. Our team is strong and has no weaknesses; we can answer any question we get,” junior Chance Stephens said.

Stephen’s family, Phillips/Seder, won the quiz bowl last year for their house, Caritas. They come ready to defend their title this year. Their family had a dominant run last year, defeating every opponent they faced with ease. They are starting in the Community pillar side of the quiz bowl bracket. Their first game will be on Tuesday next week during empower hour as they look to win their first game this year.

The quiz bowl is made to have the St. Dominic community compete against each other. Also, students have fun, bond and grow friendships at the same time. Quiz bowl season challenges people’s problem solving and critical thinking skills by giving trivia questions meant to trip you up or just basic trivia to test your knowledge.

St. Dominic as a community unites every family and house into great competitions throughout the year. With this winter season bringing on the highly competitive quiz bowl. We will see who wins it all this year, will it be Phillips/Seder going back to back or will it be someone new this year? With the championship being on March 10th this year, we will see who reigns superior this quiz bowl season.
