Every year the freshman, sophomores and juniors have to decide the classes they want to take for the next year. Some of the classes are already decided, but in other classes, students have to choose what they want to take.
Although the students have to ultimately decide what they want to take, they get help from the guidance counselors at St. Dominic. Mr. Markway, Mrs. Nero and Mrs. Koepke help students choose what classes best fit what they want to do in the future.
Each student meets with their guidance counselor before their class registration is due. In these meetings they look at the grades and see what classes the student should take. This could range from serious classes such as honors, to some fun easy classes such as team sports.
“The classes that offered college credit are the ones I really want to take because they’ll help me in the future for college,” junior John Michael Redmon said.
Some students decide to jam pack their schedule with difficult classes, while others take a different approach by taking fun easy classes. Most people that decide to take these easier classes are seniors because they are trying to enjoy their last year of high school.
“For my senior year I’m making my classes pretty easy, so I can enjoy it and not have to stress,” junior Jay Phillips said.
Although it is just freshman, sophomores and juniors choosing classes now, current seniors have to decide where they are going to college. This plays a major impact in their future on deciding what type of degree they want to get.
Next year St. Dominic is offering new classes such as statistics, an artificial intelligence class and new trades classes. With many new classes comes many new opportunities for students to learn new things. These new opportunities can lead to success in the future.
Deciding new classes affects the future of all students, so students should be mindful of what classes they take. No matter if students take easy or hard classes, picking the classes that they will enjoy is what matters most.
