With Catholic Schools week coming to a close the annual winter assembly took place on Friday. This year is a little different since Mr. Tock gave up the reins to the HOHs to plan the entire house assembly.
In every assembly there comes a lot of planning, from games to recognizing winter athletes the planning had to be precise to make sure everything would run smoothly. This challenge pushed the HOHs beyond their normal limit and out of their comfort zone. The biggest challenge to make sure the assembly would run smoothly was the timing. With only an hour of time the games had to move quickly but also had to be engaging enough that everyone would be excited.
The HOHs also learned quickly that the instructions for the games had to be concrete so everyone would understand the games and no one would accidentally cheat. With so many people involved it is vital that everyone has an even chance for victory.
“We had to make sure we explained everything so that no one would get angry since it can get very intense when house points are on the line,” Virtus HOH Landon Wright said.
The games the HOHs planned had to be safe as well. With classic games like tug of war and basketball musical chairs danger was not a large factor. The biggest question of the whole assembly was wig snatch. Wig snatch is a TikTok trend where each contestant has a wig on their head and they have to dodge people trying to grab their wig while simultaneously trying to snatch everyone else’s.
“It was definitely a big question if people would accidentally grab each other’s hair but in the end it all worked out,” Caritas HOH Madelyn Wagner said.
In the end the HOHs planned an incredible assembly. The games were fantastic and engaging and the energy in the Fallon Family Center was electric. The assembly definitely brought energy back into the house system leading into the next big competition of quiz bowl. It will be exciting to see who wins the next competition but even more who will win the house cup.
