Now that we’re a few weeks into the semester, it’s time to celebrate Catholic Schools Week! This will be celebrated by nearby Catholic schools as well, beginning Monday, January 26th and going through Friday, January 30th. This week is meant for taking pride in our Catholic education, living out our faith lives, and having fun in our community.
Catholic Schools Week is a tradition that has existed for decades, with St. Dominic always participating. This year is no different, as we will showcase the power of a strong education rooted in faith. Throughout the week, there will be many themes and activities that will keep students involved and invested.
“Monday is dress-like-your-favorite-teacher day. Get creative and have fun—see if your friends can guess which teacher you’re channeling,” learning consultant Mrs. Gerard said.
This is one of many dress down days next week, with this one giving us the chance to show our appreciation for our teachers. This will help us all to stay warm while showing our school pride. Also, don’t forget to buy a house shirt on Monday if you need a new one!
“On Tuesday, wear a t-shirt that represents a charity or service organization,” Mrs. Gerard said.
Tuesday is dedicated to the pillar of service, so students are encouraged to utilize the time after school on this half day to serve the community. There will be many opportunities provided, like creating blessings bags, bracelets, and writing cards for nursing home residents. All materials will be provided.
“Wednesday is for the pillar of prayer. Wear your house shirt. Boys will still wear slacks, but girls don’t need sweaters,” Mrs. Gerard said.
Next, Wednesday will be our House Mass. This is the second year St. Dominic is putting this on, strengthening the connection between the pillars of prayer and community. Within each house and family, students will be able to grow in faith with one another.
“Friday is the House Assembly. We’re one of the biggest Catholic schools in the area, so it’s good to rally things off on Friday like this. It will really bring the whole community together and give us the chance to have lots of fun,” HOH Landon Wright said.
Last but not least, Friday brings an exciting House Assembly! Many points are up for grabs with games like tug-of-war and knockout musical chairs. This is a great opportunity to celebrate as a whole school to close out the week.
Of course, Catholic Schools Week will come to an end with the Winter Formal dance on Saturday, with the theme “A Night Under the Northern Lights.” This will be the perfect end to a week meant to show why the Catholic faith is so in important to our school. Make sure to have fun next week: let’s celebrate what makes St. Dominic special!
