This past Monday, St. Dominic’s LUX put on their Advent by Candlelight, a wonderful night shared with friends. In this season of hope, students deepened their faith with adoration and grew together with trivia, food, and games.
This is not the first time LUX has put on Advent by Candlelight. It has become a December tradition and a powerful way to bring the community together. The night began with trivia in small groups with questions about Advent and Christmas. Then, Senior Caroline Harris gave a testimony about her growth in faith and about how Advent by Candlelight had impacted her before.
“I was very honored to give a testimony because talking about my path to God feels scary, but hearing others connect to it made me feel more confident about my journey,” senior Caroline Harris said.
After the testimony, participants broke into small groups to talk about the testimony and the path God was leading them to this Advent. Then, everybody was invited to be in Jesus’ presence through Adoration in the chapel. Reconciliation was also provided during this time, as music was being played.
“I really like the intimacy of adoration and having few people. Nothing too crazy or loud. The music hit just right with an acoustic guitar. I liked the simplicity of it,” senior Kaiden Hoff said.
Adoration lasted for about an hour with many different songs being played. It was a time of quiet peace and reflection as students and teachers connected with Jesus in the sacrament. It was a calming experience in a sea of stress with finals and homework.
“It was such a moving experience. I left feeling full of anticipation for the rest of Advent and eventually for Christmas,” junior Ethan Poulter said.
A huge thanks to LUX for putting on such a beautiful event. Continue to seek out Jesus this Advent season as Christmas draws nearer.
