As the year starts to come to a close, so do the Fall sports. Girls Volleyball and Boys Soccer brought ends to their seasons by both making it to districts. From the course of August to November, these players were going to countless practices and even more games, giving each one their all.
Girls Volleyball had a very productive season, having a winning average of 3-0 against almost all opponents. The season hit a high when the girls made it to the first round of State Quarterfinals against Incarnate Word Academy on November 1st. Although they lost, Coach Courtney Bland is still very proud of the girls and all the hard work that they put in this season.
“The motto this season was ‘stack the day’ so we used every game and every win or loss to learn lessons and just keep getting better. This team was really after big games at finding things we did well and ways we can improve. Natalie Frazier was our team captain and six rotations outside. She played varsity for three seasons and was a driving force behind our success this season. Natalie was named all district and all conference this year,” Coach Bland said.
However, Girls Volleyball wasn’t the only team with a triumphant season. Boys Soccer made it three rounds into districts, playing their last game of the season at Fort Zumwalt West. Senior Mason Phillips was one of the major players for the team this season.
“We definitely had some lows, but I think it was encouragement from our coaches saying that they believe we are right there, we just have to get over the hump. I also think it was all of our mindsets, we always wanted to bounce back after a loss right away, which reflects that we didn’t have more than two losses in a row. The time we spent together off the field brought us really close and together, for example the team dinners, team bonding, and the early morning practices on Saturdays. As the season went out we all got closer and closer and learned that we have to work for each other and play for each other rather than ourselves,” Mason said.
We are so proud of our teams this year for both making it to districts. Good luck to the teams just starting for the Winter Season!
