This Saturday saw an exciting end to the 2025 MLB Season as the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Toronto Blue Jays in Game 7 of the World Series. The final score was 5-4. So much time and effort was put into this final battle between two of baseball’s greatest teams, but it all came to a head this weekend.
Going into Game 7, another World Series title was never a guarantee for Los Angeles. With Toronto up 3-2 going into Game 6, the Dodgers had to win two games back-to-back to have their shot at becoming World Series champions. The two teams had traded wins throughout the series, with Toronto’s win in Game 5 giving them an upper-hand.
Throughout the series, there were many excellent players on both sides. Toronto, for one, had Vlad Guerrero Jr., a generational player who had made five All-Star appearances and had been an MLB home run leader. Guerrero was also backed up with a cast of greats, like DH George Springer and catcher Alejandro Kirk.
On the other hand, The Dodgers also had their share of top players, with great pitching from Blake Snell and Yoshinobu Yamamoto. The star was Shohei Ohtani, with his role as both designated hitter and pitcher a testament to his skills both on the mound and at bat.
Game 7, taking place in Toronto, marked the first full series since 2019. There was much anticipation and the game delivered. The game was kept scoreless by Ohtani until the third inning when the Blue Jays got on the board with a three-run home run from Bo Bichette. The Dodgers’ Will Smith managed to score a run in the 4th but the team still trailed 3-1.
Los Angeles narrowed the gap with a run in the top of the sixth, but were quickly met with another from Toronto later that inning. Max Muncy’s home run put the game at 4-3, but the Dodgers were still down going into the ninth. Miraculously, shortstop Miguel Rojas was able to tie the game with a home run. The chaos in the ninth inning didn’t stop there, as the Blue Jays’ batted last and put up a fight. Despite bases being loaded and many runs nearly being scored, pitching from Yamamoto ensured the game went to extra innings.
Yamamoto continued to pitch the game of his life, leading to a scoreless tenth. With Smith hitting a home run in the eleventh, the game finally turned in favor of the Dodgers. Following two outs and a game-winning double play, the Los Angeles Dodgers became World Series champions.
No matter who you rooted for, there’s no doubt this year’s World Series will go down as one of the most exhilarating ever. And with star players on both teams still being in their prime, next year’s season is set to be another great one.
