The Mizzou Tigers started out the football season on a high. They started the season 5-0. In their most recent game they lost to the Alabama Crimson Tide 27-24. Besides this loss, there have been many positive things that have happened so far this season.
“I think the fact that we’ve just had a strong start to the season being undefeated until last week even though it was kind of tragic that loss but It was still good to see that we’ve been competing,” junior Sam Osterholt said.
A big positive has been Mizzou’s running back Ahmad Hardy. So far this season he has 782 rushing yards and nine touchdowns. He has been one of the front runners for the Heisman trophy this year.
Another part of the success this year is quarterback Beau Pribula. He was a transfer from Penn State and replaced Brady Cook who graduated last year. He is a fan favorite player, and has been one of the better quarterbacks in the Southeastern Conference (SEC) this year. He is able to throw well, but also run the ball himself.
The fans have been a factor with the team’s success. All of the games so far this season have been home games for the Tigers. The fans have been some of the best fans this year in all of college football. The Mizzou fans are most known for singing Mr. Brightside by the Killers during the game.
“Being in the crowd it’s loud and fun to cheer in. I think it impacts the game with how loud the crowd is,” junior Cooper Bierman said.
The defense has been a very important part of the team this year. They have only allowed 18.8 points per game this year, which is 23rd in the nation. They also only give up 223.6 yards per game, which is second in the nation. Without this good defense the Tigers wouldn’t be doing as good as they are right now.
Currently, the Mizzou Tigers are ranked 16th in the nation. They are pushing for a college football playoff spot. The Tigers are looking to bounce back this week against the Auburn Tigers. It will be their first away game of the year, so it’ll be a tougher game for them. Hopefully the team can win and continue their success.
