All around the world, pickleball has started to become increasingly popular, catching the attention of many students at St. Dominic. The recent obsession with pickleball has inspired Mrs. Robyn Baker to create pickleball intramurals for students at St. Dominic. Pickleball intramurals take place during empower hour, on the tennis courts.
“I grew up playing pickleball, because my parents were P.E. teachers so they taught me how to play pickleball at a very young age,” Mrs. Robyn Baker said.
Pickleball is a way for students to interact with their classmates and even other students around the school that they might have never interacted with before. Pickleball strengthens students’ relationships that will last a lifetime. During intramurals, teams of two face off against other students making fun memories. These intramurals also allow students to have a break from all of the stress school may give them.
“My favorite thing about pickleball is getting to play with my friends and have fun and not being super serious,” sophomore Shelby Knittel said.
After playing pickleball for a couple weeks, these students will be playing in a tournament. This tournament will be showing which duo is the best at pickleball, while still being fun and respectful. Some students just play to learn what pickleball is, and others play to win. Students who may have never picked up a pickleball paddle before are now discovering how addicting the game is. Pickleball is quick and easy to learn, while providing a fun way to get someone’s mind off what is happening in the world.
“I’m going to look at all of the teams that are involved and then I’m going to put together a schedule with the players involved,” Mrs. Robyn Baker said.
While it’s still nice outside, pickleball intramurals will be in full swing. The small court makes it super easy for students to become involved and enjoy the game. Pickleball ensures a good time while still being a sport that will bring students together and lighten their moods. Many people say that pickleball intramurals are so fun and relaxing and they will always ensure a good time.
“A fun memory I have from the intramurals is when Brianna and I surprised ourselves by being really good for the first time we played together,” sophomore Shelby Knittel said.
Pickleball intramurals have been a hit around St. Dominic. Without these intramurals, some of these students would have never connected with each other. St. Dominic students have found a new thing to do during the school day that is still fun, active, and creative that will bring students together in the upcoming years.
