Saint Dominic has always had a lively student section. This year the administration took it to another level introducing The Cru, a group of enthusiastic seniors who will be in charge of all things relating to sports student sections.
The Cru was created to bring more excitement around sporting events. From providing new items like pom poms and rally towels to creating chants they want to bring more excitement. The group’s whole mission is to bring school spirit and pride to the St. Dominic community.
Some students have wondered why there is not a colorful jacket passed down in front of the student section, like there was in the past years, but that is because a new tradition has been made with the creation of Cru. The student population at St. Dominic has grown exponentially, along with student responsibilities. Leaving a single individual with the weight to go to every important sporting event can be a lot so the idea of Cru came up.
”Getting a group of students to lead the student section instead of a single individual has helped split up responsibilities, while also maintaining a fun group environment,” Dean of Students Mrs. Melissa Liszewski said.
In total, Cru is made up of ten seniors, both boys and girls. Who are involved in multiple sports and activities outside of school. Having a large group with diversity offers up many new opportunities from the student section.
“I think it’s important to have people from many different backgrounds so that everyone in the student section feels included, not just the typical fan,” Cru member Kate McDonald said.
The Cru is a new organization but they already have big plans for the future. From new chants to lively music the energy from Cru is constant. They hope to bring new excitement with fun themes and decorations that will make the atmosphere electric.
“Get excited, be loud, and have fun,” Cru member Chloe Price said.
Cru has put a lot of hard work into making plans and getting ready for the upcoming year. Crusaders are excited to have fun in the student section this year. No matter the score or outcome of the game, always support fellow Crusaders and share the magic of the St. Dominic community with the outside world.
