St. Dominic Varsity boys basketball just brought home a huge championship win at the Washington Tournament. They beat Borgia 60-37 and Pattonville 54-41, with Luke Roberts scoring 10 of those points for St. Dominic.
All of the games this season, as well as the Washington tournament, have been supplemented with baskets scored by Luke Roberts. Tons of behind the scenes work goes into the scoring and winning of these games by not only Luke Roberts, but the entire team. Many team members wake early, attend practices, and lift weights to achieve the common goal of winning as many games as possible.
“I woke up at six AM every morning to shoot baskets before school, as well as plyos everyday after school,”Luke Roberts said.
However, winning is not the only important thing to the basketball team. Camaraderie is essential to the team, along with winning. The athletes love to go out to eat together and make practices lively with great music, energy, hard work, and conversation. This camaraderie and love for the sport is what leads many new people to join the team.
“The atmosphere, energy, and shooting are my favorite parts of the practices and games,”Luke Roberts said.
The atmosphere of St. Dominic varsity basketball games are very cheerful, with the band playing exciting music and the crowd chanting and cheering on the athletes. Each game the student section chooses a theme ranging from jersey night to dressing in all black. The cheering fans, spirited student section, and upbeat band inspire the players and adds a sense of excitement to the games.
“My favorite game, and the one I feel I did the best in so far this season, was the one we played against Borgia last Friday,”Luke Roberts said.
Make sure to catch the next big game for Luke Roberts and the rest of the team at the Fort Zumwalt North Invitational, with the first game of the invitational against Parkway North.
