St. Dominic’s Great Grandparents Day

Dominic’s Grandparents Day begins with mass led by Father Patrick

Over the weekend, St. Dominic hosted their annual Grandparents Day, which included mass, breakfast, and a self-guided tour for all students, and their grandparents. When it comes to honoring grandparents, the St. Dominic community does a great job in welcoming the elders, and including them in celebrating St. Dominic.

The fun-filled morning began at 9AM, with mass led by Father Patrick.

“Having mass first allows us to draw together as a faith community and inspires families to pray together,” Junior Emma Gangepaign said.

While mass always comes first to the St. Dominic community, food is a close second. Following mass, grandparents were invited to stay for a delicious breakfast that included food from McDonald’s, Chris’ Cakes, Panera, and Old Towne Donuts.

“Breakfast was a good way to help my grandparents and I have a nice conversation without the hassle of distractions,” Senior Maddie Troesser said.

Grandparents day takes weeks of preparation, as over 800 individuals attended the event. The Dominic Ambassadors program, made sure to help out in the morning, by greeting all attendees at the door, and instructing them into the gym.

“I didn’t mind helping out because my grandparents were already coming, and I knew they needed help,” Sophomore Piper Wiegmann said.

It’s no secret that St. Dominic goes above and beyond for their grandparents, as it is always a huge success. In addition to breakfast and mass, Dominic provided all grandparents with a packet of flower seeds, and even opened the spirit wear store for grandparent merch.

“While the overall day was great, opening the spirit wear store was a nice added touch to make Grandparents Day even better,” freshman Madi Beckring said.

During the event, Dominic’s campus was open for self-guided tours. Students were invited to show their grandparents a glimpse of the school building, which many grandparents found very special and interesting.

“Although it was hard to move around, my grandma enjoyed what she was could see and loved being able to visit my second home,” Sophomore Addison Ripperger said.

Although Grandparent’s Day flies by, Dominic does a fantastic job in acknowledging our leaders. If you haven’t attended Grandparents Day in the past, make sure to reach out to your grandparents and plan ahead for the next one!
