Temperentia competes in the freshman only competition by playing water bottle flip cup

The 2021-2022 freshman only house competition that was introduced last year began earlier this week and is already off to a great start. This competition is specifically designed to bring families together by involving the freshmen and helping them feel more welcomed and excited about the house system.

The rules for the competition are that every freshman from each family in the six houses compete against each other in Minute-to-Win-it style games. In the first two rounds, freshmen will play against the freshmen from other families within their house. After these rounds, the remaining freshmen from each house will all play against each in one final round where the winning house will be crowned.

This competition is set up to get the freshmen more excited about the house system and to feel more comfortable with their families and each other. With their fellow family members cheering them on, the tournament also helps to get everybody involved within their house community.

“This competition is an opportunity to help freshmen feel more a part of their families and House.  They get to contribute and earn points for their House while being cheered on by the rest of the school,” House Coordinator Mrs. Kristy Hagan said.

With the help of Mrs. Hagan, the New Member Captains had a big part in planning this competition. They came up with a lot of the game ideas and were in charge of organizing the entire tournament. They also are in charge of running the games and making sure everything runs smoothly when families are playing.

“As a New Member Captain, we came up with games including the water bottle balet, cup stacking with rubber bands, and a relay race for the final round,” sophomore New Member Captain for Gaudium, Elizabeth Hogan, said.

The New Member Captains are really excited for this competition because it will give everyone an opportunity to become closer with the other people in their house. It will also give the freshmen a sense of belonging in their families and ultimately their house as a whole.

“This will allow the freshman to be more involved in the house system and help them to know more freshmen within their houses,” junior New Member Captain for Temperentia, Vinny Pescarino, said.

The freshmen only competition is sure to get everyone to participate and help the freshmen get even more pumped up for future competitions. This competition isn’t just about earning points for your house, it’s about including our freshmen and making them feel at home within their house. Be sure to cheer on the freshmen in your family as they compete to hopefully get one step closer to the House Cup.
