The boys soccer team is raising money for Footprints at Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital

As one of the four pillars of St. Dominic High School, community is an important aspect to each and every Crusader. One way our Crusaders support the community is through the annual Footprints soccer games. For many years, the fundraising event was only hosted by the girl’s soccer team, but tomorrow night marks the first Footprints game played by the boy’s soccer team.

Footprints is a program at Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital that dedicates time and resources to helping children with detrimental illnesses. The program has been around for many years, and it was introduced to St. Dominic by Coach Greg Koeller.

The Footprints program is close to Coach Koeller’s heart because his wife used to work at the Children’s Hospital.

“Cardinal Glennon is a very special place because of the advocacy and support they showed to my family,” Coach Koeller said.

Coach Koeller is the head coach for both the boys and the girls soccer team, so it is important to him that his players take part in the charity fundraiser. The soccer players raised money for Footprints by selling t-shirts. Entrance fees for the designated Footprints game are also donated to the hospital.

“I’m very proud [of my players] for helping families who are going through very difficult times,” Coach Koeller said.

This year, the Varsity boy’s soccer team at CBC was invited to play against our Crusaders. CBC was the chosen rival after their coach approached Mr. Koeller and asked if his team could take part in Footprints.

“CBC wanted to focus on something bigger than just the game itself and do some good for the community,” Coach Koeller said.

No matter the outcome of the game, we are proud of our boys for their dedication and generosity towards Cardinal Glennon through the Footprints organization. If you would also like to make a contribution, be sure to pop out to tomorrow’s Footprints soccer game at CBC to support both our boys and the Cardinal Glennon.
