The House System at St. Dominic High School is extremely important and an exciting aspect that contributes to our school’s community. With loads of house competitions, challenges, and weekly donations, we occasionally only look at the House System from a birds eye view. Let’s dive in and get to know some Crusaders from each house a little better!

While the Caritas family is continuing to thrive off their hallway decoration win, junior Mckinley Curran is well-known for her outstanding volleyball performance, but she was more than pleased to tell us about her life outside of school.

“My favorite food of all time is definitely Chinese food. It’s one food that I will never get tired of,” Curran said.

When asked about her favorite color, Curran quickly responded with “blue,” she can’t choose a go-to Netflix show, and after bringing up the Canes and Chick-fil-A debate, Curran responded with, “Canes. For sure.”

Senior Alex Santiago, who is part of the Dignitas family, was ecstatic to give us an inside scoop of her hectic and busy life.

“I cheered for football in the fall and also help out with STUCO cabinet to plan out events. When I’m done with school I usually go to the gym and get a good workout in. Currently don’t have a job but over summer I lifeguard and teach little kids how to ride horses. When it comes to TV, on Netflix I always go back and rewatch Grey’s Anatomy. If not, The Vampire Diaries,” Santiago said.

The Gaudiam house has proven their hard work and dedication as they dominate competitions and stay on top of the leaderboard.  Active freshman Griffin Hirtz felt free to give us his answers on what he enjoys and is involved in outside his house involvement.

“My favorite food is definitely a good burger. I’m not a huge fan of Canes or Chick-fil-A. I would choose Arby’s or Wendy’s over them any day…I have always wanted to get involved in the Saint Dominic Community, so I entered the football program this year and I enjoyed it a lot. I also plan on joining the track team this year,” Hirtz said.

Sophomore Amelia Green is a proud member of the Gratia family and gave us a behind the scenes of her life as a two-year Crusader.

“My favorite color is definitely red and my favorite food is Chipotle. I can never get enough of The Vampire Diaries on Netflix. I play field hockey for Saint Dominic and I am also the goalie. Outside of school, I play field hockey for Gateway Saint Louis and have loved being on their team ever since I joined,” Green said.

Junior Maggie Krekeler, who is part of House Temperentia, does not let down her fellow Crusaders with her humor and unique personality.

“I don’t have a favorite food because I enjoy lots of different foods, but if I was told to choose between Canes or Chick-fil-A, I am definitely on Canes’ side. I am not a part of any sports teams or clubs at Saint Dominic, but I enjoy hanging out with my friends outside of school. My favorite color is black because it can go with anything and it’s simple. I’m also obsessed with binging shows on Netflix and my go-tos right now are American Horror Story and Criminal Minds. Pretty sure I could finish both of them in less than a week if I wanted to,” Krekeler said.

Finally, senior Sarah Herr from House Virtus family is well-known for her independence and positive attitude within the St. Dominic community.

“I have been on the varsity tennis team here for 4 years now and am part of the NHS. Outside of school, I work at the new Oberweis on Highway K and spend a lot of my time there. My good friend Karli Winters, who is also a senior here, works there with me as well. My favorite food is probably a cheeseburger. I’m known for making amazing ones at work since Oberweis is connected to a burger restaurant. My go-to Netflix show is Grey’s Anatomy and my favorite color has always been blue,” Herr said.

Our house system here at Saint Dominic High School is filled with loads of happiness, friendship, and hard work. Getting to know each of our students and what their life is like in the real world is an important aspect towards our crusader community.
