St Dominic’s newest generation of collegiate athletes signed their Letters of Intent on February 7. A total of 17 seniors signed to schools all across the Midwest to continue the legacy they began at St. Dominic.

The athletes’ family and friends filled the Fallon Family Center, proving who the biggest fans are. The enthusiastic community created a positive atmosphere for the morning, and a surplus of smiles carried through the rest of the day.

“It’s a testament to not only the athletes commitment to their sport, but the commitment St. Dominic coaches and teachers have put into these athletes,” said Athletic Director Kevin Roberts.

St. Dominic continued its soccer star factory reputation as nine of the signees committed to play the sport at the collegiate level. Two of SDHS’s brightest talents who will carry their soccer success into college are Maddie Ballard, playing at Columbia College, and Madeline Weston, playing at the University of Southern Indiana. Their respective signings carried a significant amount of meaning.

“It means a lot to me to be continuing my soccer career in college because it had been my goal ever since I was a little girl,” said Weston.

The presence of loved ones made the experience that much more special for many of the signees.

“I loved having my family there because they are the reason I am where I am today. They shaped me into the person and player I am now. I also don’t have to stress about picking a college anymore which is awesome,” said Ballard.

Of course, soccer players aren’t the only athletes going on to represent St. Dominic at the college level. Proven playmakers such as Riley Luetkenhaus, playing softball at Lindenwood University, and Cassie Esker, running track at Drury University, are continuing their love for their sport in college.

“Honestly as I signed I couldn’t stop thinking about how nice the pen was that the school gave us to sign with,” said Esker.

The accomplishments of Crusader athletes are sure to bring joy to the community throughout their college careers. We cannot wait to see what’s in store for our Crusaders!
