The film is about Millie, a young girl who is trying to leave her dark past behind and begin anew. She takes up a live-in housemaid job with the wealthy Winchester family with the hopes of gaining a place where she would be safe and could begin anew. At first, everything seems like it is meant to be. The house is large and grand, and the family seems like normal people. However, it doesn’t take long for things to seem a little strange. The house seems empty and strange, and the Winchester family doesn’t always behave in the manner that one would expect.
One of the strong points of this movie could be considered its acting. Amanda Seyfried acts amazingly as Nina Winchester. She appears to be very composed and together, though there is a hint of unpredictableness about her. Her character makes you very uneasy, as you never know what you are going to expect her to do next. Sydney Sweeney acts very realistically as Millie, capturing her fear, confusion, as well as her strength when she understands that she might be threatened.
