Amazon Prime’s hit series “The Summer I Turned Pretty” returned this summer for its third and final season, and fans can’t stop talking about it. “The Summer I Turned Pretty” highlights an enjoyable coming-of-age romance, compelling love triangle, a nostalgic feel, strong female lead, and extensive Taylor Swift soundtrack, though some critics find the love story less convincing than the coming of age aspects.
While some note that the show adapted the Jenny Han books effectively, others suggest the adaption rushes certain plot lines and character development, particularly regarding the love interests. Overall, this show is described as a fun drama that captures attention by focusing on young love and friendship.
“This show never fails to keep me interested! I count down each day till a new episode comes out waiting to see what comes next in this series,” junior Chloe Koepke said.
On the down side, spending money on the Prime Video subscription may not be worth it for many. However many people buy Prime Video just for the show itself because they enjoy it so much. Another main reason this show seems to bring in viewers is the characters. Many fans have started to obsess over these characters and are making teams of who they want the main character, Belly, to end up with.
“I love this show and the ability it has to pull emotion from its audience. It does such a good job to grab my attention time after time with each new episode and that’s why I love it,” junior Brooklyn Pruett said.
Although not everything hit the mark in fan’s opinions, with Jeremiah’s character arc and performance, calling it underwhelming compared to his brother Conrad’s development in the show. Another problem with the show seems to be its struggle with pacing of scenes and episodes. Time seems to jump ahead to unnecessary side plots and makes the show seem rushed and unorganized.
Overall, season 3 of “The Summer I Turned Pretty” is an emotional roller coaster. While the writing isn’t perfect, the message of the show and heartfelt performances make all the difference. It’s romantic and sometimes over the top performing might be a little much at times but that’s exactly what all these fans love and enjoy about the show.
