Before the school year comes to an end, many events are set to take place within the St. Dominic community. Spring time is known to be filled with fun events, whether it be Prom, the Living Rosary, or St. Dominic Day.
- Prom
Although Prom is just for upperclassmen, every student benefits from it. On Friday, May 2nd, all St. Dominic students are given the day off school. That night, all juniors and seniors gather together at Old Hickory Country Club for Prom. During the dance, appetizers are served, and the Prom king and queen are announced. Additionally, this year’s theme is The Great Gatsby, which has excited both staff and students.
“I’m super excited for this year’s prom and the theme,” senior Izzy Stockmann said.
- Living Rosary
The Living Rosary is a beautiful event that takes place every year to honor our Mother Mary. During the month of May St. Dominic gathers together as a school community to pray the rosary. Rather than attend mass, students watch as their peers participate in the “living rosary,” which includes lighting candles, offering flowers, and more. The event is unique as students don’t simply pray the rosary, but rather participate in it. Additionally, after the rosary, many seniors are honored with a service honor award. There’s no doubt St. Dominic seniors excel in the pillar of service, and Mr. Welby does a fantastic job recognizing their success.
“I love being able to celebrate one last Living Rosary with the whole school, and being able to thank God for everything,” senior Atticus Wilmes said.
- St. Dominic Day
St. Dominic Day is popular amongst students as the day is filled with fun. As students walk into school on May 8th, they are asked to donate ten dollars and then are allowed to dress down. For breakfast, students are given Old Town Donuts, which are a favorite for both staff and students. Following the fun-filled morning, empower hour is packed with events such as snow cones, bounce houses, real soda, and more!
“I’m most excited about the snow cones and the extra 30 minutes during empower hour,” senior Gavin Short said.
Although the school year is winding down, the fun doesn’t stop at St. Dominic. The next few weeks are jam packed with events, so take advantage of the opportunities! Remember to live in the moment and get excited for the upcoming special occasions!
