As the Class of 2025 nears the finish line at St. Dominic High School, the excitement is anything but winding down. Seniors are diving headfirst into Senior Assassin. This unofficial tradition involves students attempting to eliminate assigned targets using water guns, all while dodging their own pursuers. The game, organized independently by students, is documented on the Instagram account @sdhs.seniorassassin25.
Senior Assassin has gained popularity across the U.S. since the 2010s, often serving as a rite of passage for graduating students. Participants pay an entry fee, with the last student standing typically winning a cash prize. The game emphasizes stealth and strategy, with rules prohibiting eliminations on school grounds or private property without permission.
The game officially kicked off on Monday, April 14 at 3:00 p.m, and will run through May 1 at 10:00 a.m. The stakes have been raised as 149 seniors joined the game making the cash prize a whopping $1490.
Organizers laid out clear rules for gameplay:
- No “Premium” protection purchases—buying one means automatic elimination.
- No assassinations are allowed on school property from morning until practices end.
- Goggles must be worn over eyes to avoid elimination.
- Only water guns are permitted as weapons.
- A video of the elimination must be uploaded to Splashin (a private tracking platform) for it to count.
- GPS location must be on at all times, or participants face elimination.
The account, run by the game’s organizer senior Olivia Byrne, keeps followers updated with videos of the eliminations.
Though the school does not officially sponsor the event, it’s become a time-honored tradition among seniors looking to bond and blow off steam before graduation.
With strategy, trust, and a water gun in hand, the Class of 2025 is soaking up every last drop of their final semester together.
