Olivia’s New Music is Anything, but Brutal

Olivia Rodrigo
Olivia’s new cover art for her biggest single yet, Vampire

In just a few weeks Olivia Rodrigo will be releasing her first album since her big hit, Sour album, as an artist. Fans are eager to see what the album will be like, because it’s been two years since we have heard any new music from her.

Olivia Rodrigo starred on a few Disney Channel shows, but her biggest show taking her to stardom was High School Musical: The Musical – The Series released in 2020. On this show she wrote a song called All I Want. The song blew up online exposing Olivia to the world. Everyone was curious to see if she would write more as time went on.

In 2021, Olivia Rodrigo released one of the biggest songs of the year, Drivers License. Everyone was pulled into the lyrics because they were written about a co-star in the show she was on. People fell in love with the young singer, and were dying to see what she’d do next. In May, she released her album Sour. She won award after award for this album. She eventually went on tour even with the track list only adding up to be around 30 minutes.

After the conclusion of her tour radio silence, literally. A year went by, fans thought maybe an announcement on the one year birthday of Sour, but nothing. Another year rolled around and the same. Then on June 26, 2023, she announced her sophomore album Guts would be coming out September 8th. Then on the 27th, she announced her first single Vampire

Fans were so excited to be getting new music from Olivia, because some had thought she would be a one hit wonder, but she came back bigger and better. Fans didn’t know what this album had in store because with Olivia getting older they were curious if she’d go with the naïve little girl stick, or grow with her music.

When Vampire premiered on June 29th, everyone tuned in to listen. Vampire focused more on Olivia’s mistakes on falling for a guy who was not good for her, and how it was her fault for not moving on. Most fans were excited for this more mature move with her music. Some were sad she was moving more into a contemporary style of music.

Just when we thought we’d have to wait till September to hear more of Olivia’s music, she released Bad Idea, Right? on August 10th. This was a more upbeat and fun version of Olivia that all fans were excited to see come back. This song also holds on to the maturity levels that Vampire had while still being a good dancing song.

Olivia Rodrigo has blown the world away with her newest singles. I know I am not the only one who is counting down the days until September 8th, to hear what the rest of this incredible album will be like.
