The 95th annual Academy Awards is coming up very quickly, as it is this Sunday. This Hollywood event honors movies that were released in 2022, covering live-action, animated and many more types of films. 

Elvis, which premiered in the summer of 2022, is nominated for eight Oscars. The categories include sound, production design, best picture, makeup and hairstyle, film editing, and more. 

And obviously, the star of the movie, Austin Butler, is nominated for an actor in a leading role. Just to be nominated is a complete honor. Only five actors were nominated for this category.

Each year the Oscars offer a very prestigious award to one lucky person or group per category.  Another familiar movie to most people is Disney’s movie Turning Red, which features a 13-year-old girl who goes through changing into a red giant panda. 

This year even Black Panther:Wakanda Forever, is nominated for costume, design, makeup and hairstyling, and visual effects. For one movie to show up in multiple categories is truly amazing, since this is such a difficult thing to be nominated for. 

Avatar: The Way of Water, is one of the newer releases in the group, as it came out in mid December. This movie is up for best picture, product design, sound, and visual effects. For a later film to come out and dominate some of the categories, there is no doubt that all of the hard work has paid off. 

One last movie that is familiar to most is Everything Everywhere All at Once. Although I have not seen it, I have heard of it and it is nominated in more than six categories. Some of them are the movie as a whole, but Michelle Yeoh and Stephanie Usu are up for leading and supporting actresses. 

There is no doubt that this year’s Oscar awards is a tough match between movies. Many more are up for an Oscar, and make sure to watch this spectacular award show on ABC.com!
