St. Dominic winter sports are suiting up for their 2022-2023 season.

As the weather drops, winter sports are heating up as they prepare for their 2022-2023 season. Games are already in play and the Crusaders have started out strong.

It’s already game time for the boys basketball team, as they play their first home games during their jamboree this week. The team is all set and filled with returning starters like Trever North and Brayden Gardner.

“How hard they work and how hard they play will make our season better. They have really bonded together which makes our team chemistry a lot of fun! We really have a special squad,” Head Coach Doug Small said.

This year the team is setting their goal to win districts and beat their 23-6 record from last year. The boys first season game will be November 22nd at Orchard Farm at 6:30 pm.

This past Tuesday, girls basketball already participated in their jamboree, taking a 5-1 record at Park Hills. Under a new coaching staff, the team is ready for anything that comes their way, dominating on the court.

“I am super excited to just get on the court again and play with my team. We have a great bond and I think we will be very successful this year! Having a new coach has brought a new perspective to our team. We have a whole different system this year that is working in our favor,” junior shooting guard Mia Tabacchi said.

The girls first game will also take place November 22nd at Ursuline at 7pm.

Girls swim and dive are making their way to the top. This year head coach Carly Honerkamp makes her return as she was on maternity leave for most of last year’s season. Assistant coach Victoria Mennemeier stepped up and pushed the team to be the best, sending four girls to State. Having both coaches, the team is determined to crush their competition.

“My hope for this season is to see the girls who never really swam before grow into their roles and see the progress they make into the season. I’ve been preparing the team by starting off teaching the girls the basics and pushing them out of their comfort zones a little bit,” Coach Victoria Mennemeier said.

The girls first meet is November 30th against Rosati-Kain at 8:30pm.

The second season of ice hockey has started up for the Crusaders. Their first game was November 4th vs Clayton, unfortunately the boys lost their game but never gave up. On November 12th, the boys took their first win against Fort Zumwalt North.

The competition is just starting at St.Dominic for the winter sports. Make sure to make it to each of these fantastic sports because you don’t want to miss out!
