As the 2022 fall sports season starts to close here at St. Dominic, we have been able to celebrate our amazing senior athletes in so many ways. One of the final senior nights yet to celebrate is football. The Crusaders will take on Mary Institute and Saint Louis Country Day School, otherwise known as MICDS in a highly anticipated rematch from last year’s State Quarterfinal.

The Crusaders will look to rebound after what has been a challenging few weeks with losses to St. Francis Borgia and the Duchesne Pioneers. What better way to come back than on senior night. MICDS has had the Crusaders number the past few seasons, but St. Dominic will be looking to avenge their previous losses against the Rams.

On Friday, the St. Dominic community will be celebrating this special group of seniors, who have been through so much with this program. It is time they get their night of celebration and recognition.

These seniors include: Sam Birkenmeier, Grayton Channell, Tommy Chassaniol, Ethan Cornett, Sam Cross, Nash Kell, TJ Kwapiszeski, Michael Mueller, Max Nash, Jackson Overton, Vinny Pescarino, Noah Phillips, Cody Powell, Matthew Reid, Joe Renna, Justin Rose, Seth Skiljan, Gavin Stewart, and Kelly Welby.

To say that this is a massive group of boys would be quite the understatement, 19 seniors will be celebrated Friday, and it will be quite a sight to see. St. Dominic will try to regain the form that we all saw so much at the beginning of the season. These high and competitive spirits saw us beating the likes of Lift For Life Academy, St. Charles West, and Grandview in dominating fashion.

However, it will be a mighty uphill battle and a very large test for St. Dominic. MICDS has been one of the best schools in their conference all season. So far they only have one loss against Lutheran North. Gateway Sports Venue, a media company that promotes high school sports in St. Louis recently had MICDS ranked sixth in their rankings of all small schools. St. Dominic has since fallen off that list, but will give their best effort to make a comeback.

“I love playing with this group of guys. Being part of the first district winning team was awesome, and we look to do it again this year,” senior Matt Reid said.

With it being three years since the Crusaders last beat the Rams, they will look to knock off the powerhouse that is MICDS. More importantly however, Friday night will be about the celebration of our amazing seniors. All boys have dedicated and given so much of their talents and time to make this program what it has become today.
