A few of the many celebrities who attended the 2021 Met Gala

The Met Gala or Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute benefit is an annual fundraiser held in New York to raise money for the museum’s costume department. It is a highly exclusive, invite-only event with only a few hundred in attendance. As the largest fashion exhibition of the year, the Met Gala allows both celebrities and designers to showcase their creativity and artistic talent.

Each year the Met Gala creates a theme for guests to base their attire on. “American Independence” was the theme for the 2021 party, and it is safe to say that many stars went above and beyond to impress their audience.

19-year-old singer, Billie Eilish, stole the show with her breathtaking Marilyn Monroe-inspired gown by Oscar de la Renta.

Comedian Pete Davidson made his Met Gala debut with a posh look influenced by American designer, Thom Browne.

Kendall Jenner channeled her inner Audrey Hepburn in a stunning bedazzled Givenchy dress.

Although each attendee was dressed to the nines, several costumes fell short of the viewers’ favor.

TikTok star Dixie D’Amelio took a modern twist on Audrey Hepburn’s iconic Breakfast at Tiffany’s outfit. Unfortunately, the large feathered hat that adorned D’Amelio’s head overshadowed what was an otherwise elegant look.

Although A$AP Rocky’s attire was worn at this weekend’s Met Gala, many agree he looks better suited for a night in on the couch rather than a fashion extravaganza.

One of the riskiest looks of the night was German singer Kim Petra and her over-the-top horse ensemble.

Despite the mixed-reviews on several outfits, the Met Gala was a huge success, raising a record-breaking $16.75 million, according to The Washington Post. As always, the outfits at the Met Gala were bold, beautiful and larger-than-life, and we cannot wait to see what next year’s party will bring.
