This Tuesday, St. Dominic held a Coaches Vs. Cancer basketball game. The Coaches Vs. Cancer program was started in 1992 by Norm Stewart, a cancer survivor and former University of Missouri basketball coach. His goal was to provide education and raise funds to find a cure.

This was a new event to St. Dominic, and it was put on by Mr. Roberts and the Athletic Leadership Team, who were hoping to help the organization reach their goals. Both basketball teams playing were representing, as Cardinal Ritter also had pink warmup shirts on to support the cause.

Any donation earned you a bracelet and the option to put a name up on the “Wall of Honor.” The Wall of Honor was a selected space specifically put up to remember those who have either passed away from, survived, and or are currently fighting against cancer.

“My favorite part of the night was hanging up the papers on the Wall of Honor. I also loved seeing so many people wearing the pink out shirts and supporting a night that was special for those affected by cancer,” junior and Athletic Leadership Team member Alayna Metherd said.

At halftime, St. Dominic’s cheerleaders conducted the “Miracle Minute” by running up into the stands and collecting as much money as possible in one minute. With the bracelets, the Wall of Honor and the Miracle Minute, we raised $1,335 for cancer research!

Thank you to all who came out, supported, and donated for this worthy cause. If you didn’t get a chance to donate and would like to, or if you would like to know more, check out the Coaches Vs. Cancer website at https://www.nabc.com/Programs/coaches_vs_cancer. Together let’s find a cure for cancer!
