Single Senior Leads Girl’s Volleyball

This year, Briana Pulliam is the only senior in the girl’s volleyball program at St. Dominic. She is a crucial piece to the team, as she has played on varsity three years and is a big leader on and off the court.

“It’s taken a lot of hard work to get here. You have to learn to never give up on yourself and that it’s okay to have off games. The biggest thing I’ve learned is that you can and need to trust your teammates because then everything else will fall into place,” Briana said.

Having Briana on the court is a huge game changer for the varsity team. She is always upbeat, excited and ready to play ball.

“Bri really brings it on the court when we need her. She always wants to hit, and when she gets a kill, she gets so excited and brings the energy back up when we’re down. It’s going to be so different without her next year,” sophomore Rachel Schipper said.

Being the only senior has its ups and downs. She gets to enjoy all the glory of being a senior, but she has no one who can totally understand and share in the bittersweet feelings that a last year of a sport can bring.

“The worst part about being the only senior is the fact that I’m lonely and don’t get to share the experience with anybody else. I still get to share it with my team, and I love them all, but it’s just different than having another senior to share it with,” Briana said.

Briana hopes to lead her team through districts, sectionals and hopefully state. She is optimistic about the team’s chances, and she is ready to kill it in districts on Wednesday next week. Make sure to come support the volleyball team and see this talented senior in action!
