Dominic Rolls Past Orchard Farm

The Crusaders cruised to a 42-21 win at Orchard Farm on August 31, improving to 2-0 on the season. Fresh off of a 21-14 victory over St. Charles West on August 24, Crusader football looked to keep their early season momentum going against The Farm using an explosive offense and impressive defense.

After senior Ryan May scored on a 30 yard pass from senior quarterback Josh Willenbrink, the Crusaders jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. Later on in the  first quarter, Willenbrink showed his all around ability with a 34 yard touchdown run which helped put the boys in blue up 14-7 at the end of the first quarter.

“We got help from everyone, and it really showed out there. A really good job from the defense, they opened up a lot of opportunities for us on offense, so props to them for that,” said senior Willenbrink.

After a mostly quiet second quarter, St. Dominic was up 20-7 heading into the half. The Crusader defense held their ground, not allowing Orchard Farm to consistently move the chains as Dominic piled it on with touchdown runs from Willenbrink, senior Luke Pescarino and junior Tyler Mersnick.

A scary moment unfolded near the start of the fourth quarter when Luke Pescarino suffered a brutal injury after getting tackled from behind. Pescarino broke multiple bones in the lower part of his ankle, which will unfortunately end his season.

“You hate to see that happen, especially to a good guy like him, but injuries are part of the game. We’re all praying for him and wishing him a quick recovery,” said coach Blake Markway.

When the clock eventually hit zero, St. Dominic walked away with a hardearned 42-21 victory. The Crusaders look to continue their winning ways when they host Cardinal Ritter this Friday night at the Crusader Stadium.
