The belief that life begins at conception is a very strong view that the Catholic Church has. In our world today this idea is constantly debated. To show support of pro-life the Catholic Church put on a silent day of solidarity.
To give students an opportunity to participate, St. Dominic lifted the normal dress code and allowed students to wear a red top. By providing this opportunity St. Dominic empowered students to live out their Catholic faith.
But why did the pro-life organizations choose to have a day of silence? Why not go out and protest the act of abortion in the streets?
The act of silence is to symbolize the babies voices who had been silenced. It is to shine light on how those killed in the womb had a whole life ahead of them, but they will never get the chance. Their opportunity to live and to feel was and is stripped away from them and they have no say in the matter.
The pro life day of solidarity is aimed at high school and college because they are the future of our government. It is important to establish a strong voice in young people because soon enough they will be the ones leading the charge.
It is also influential to see young adults with such strong opinions. Young people are often open to reform and new ideas. This is very prevalent in the argument about abortion. Neither side agrees with the other and no clear compromise is available. Having young people involved shows this is not just an old fashioned idea but a strong belief that many people hold because they believe that everyone deserves a chance at life.
Those who are against pro-life may see this day of solidarity as insensitive and out of touch. With constant argument and backlash pro-life often goes back to this Bible verse, Jeremiah 1:5, ”Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you to be the prophet of nations”
The Catholic Church can withstand any outside views against pro-life because they are backed by the only word that matters the Bible.
