The NFL is one of the biggest professional sports leagues in America. Much of its popularity is because of its easy accessibility, with Sunday games streaming on most local news channels. Fantasy football is another fantastic reason the NFL is so popular.
Fantasy football provides its players a good reason to watch football on Sundays. When chosen players succeed on the field, they will also provide points to fantasy teams. Most people that play fantasy football, enjoy watching their players as they compete with their friends real time and it brings the excitement of having an NFL team to root for.
Many fans of fantasy football didn’t regularly watch football before beginning playing fantasy football, but now find themselves putting it into their routine. Fantasy football has grown its viewership by giving players that feeling of competition and having a team to root for.
“Before I began playing fantasy football, I didn’t really care about watching the NFL. Now, after I’ve started playing I’m glued to my tv every Sunday from noon on,” junior Grant Giesmann said.
The NFL knows how big fantasy is to their revenue, which is why you even hear commentators say things about top fantasy performers and surprising performances. NFL teams will even host fantasy football drafts for fans who are willing to pay.
Social media has also been a factor in the rise of fantasy football, with influencers trying to give roster advice. But maybe an even bigger part of that is the growth of people posting their fantasy punishments and ideas online.
”I do think that people posting their fantasy punishments and their fantasy teams online helps blow it up for sure,” religion teacher Mr. Bone said.
As social media grows, so will fantasy football. Allowing it to continue to grow and keep its place as the biggest sport in America. As long as fans continue to get the competitive feeling from fantasy football, they will continue to come back to it and the NFL.
