Senior Brytn Lyon was chosen to be highlighted this week because of her strong talent and dedication to the St. Dominic Volleyball team. Since Brytn was six, she has loved volleyball. She was introduced to the sport by her dad who was a coach. Since then, Brytn has committed her life to it.
However, this life of volleyball was not always easy. Growing up in a sport can be very difficult, especially in a sport that requires so much physical strength. As the team was getting older, Brytn was worried about being behind everyone else in their development. However, this challenge was overcome when she did eventually grow into her body, and catch up with the rest of the girls.
“One early challenge when I started playing volleyball was when I was still growing into my body and I was behind everyone else in development,” Brytn said.
Fast forward years later, Brytn reached one of her biggest achievements her junior year when she brought her team to All State. This moment was something she has dreamed of for years. Brytn couldn’t have done it without her constant encouragement to her teammates.
“I try to be loud, energetic, and I give my all to my teammates before myself,“ Brytn said.
The volleyball team is a very close-knit group of girls who all strive for one common goal; to play their best. All of the girls work together in order to achieve this goal, and each of them play a crucial role in this. Each teammate mentors each other, as well as coaches who mentor the team. However, Brytn’s biggest and most important mentor has been her dad. Throughout the years, her dad has been her biggest supporter. He was not only the one who introduced her to volleyball, but he also never fails to keep her motivated.
“My biggest mentor would be my dad because he is the reason I am where I am at in my volleyball career” Brytn said.
Through the years, many memories were made. However, the most memorable to Brytn was the Cure For Carson game when they beat Lafayette. This night is honored to a young boy, Carson, who loves watching volleyball. Brytn and the team love to dedicate this game to him. Winning that game just makes it even more special to the program and sweet Carson.
As the season comes to a close and seniors prepare for graduation, Brytn has to say goodbye to St. Dominic volleyball and move on to the next chapter of her volleyball career. Brytn has fully committed to Texas Tech. She is planning to continue her volleyball career there, as well as major in sports management.
While it is sad that time is running out at Dominic, Brytn is moving on to great things. Thank you Brytn for all of your hard work at St. Dominic, as well as being a bright and energetic person both on and off the court.
