Pescarino successfully vaults during a meet

The amazing talents of pole vaulters Quinn Kiger, Noah Sachs and Vinny Pescarino  have made huge strides in the St. Dominic Track and Field program. I have also made huge strides but those really haven’t done much for the program. The other three individuals are vital parts of the pole vaulting team earning Personal Records (PR) left and right, and they won’t be slowing down anytime soon.

Senior Quinn Kiger is making it his mission to go to state this year. Kiger has been on top of his game lately placing fourth in Class 4. However, fellow senior Noah Sachs is right behind Kiger in fifth. Both of these guys have come a long way since vaulting at seven feet their freshmen years, and now going for 12 feet in their last season.

“Quinn and Noah both have killer mentalities, their competitive attitudes make them strive to be better, and seeing them compete every day at practice makes me privileged and happy to be their coach,” pole vaulting coach Rick Pescarino said.

An example of this competition is when Kiger reached  11” 6’ shortly after Sachs reached 11 feet. This friendly competition has helped the two make each other better by pushing themselves to be the best.

“I really feel like Sachs makes me better and makes me compete more with the other teams because I want to be my best self,” Kiger said.

Junior Vinny Pescarino has also made tremendous strides since he was a freshman. During his first year on the team, his PR was just 7 feet and now he has surpassed 11 feet to start off his junior year. This was a well deserved milestone for Pescarino as he has been working tirelessly to pull off this vault.

“I have always tried to remain focused and strive for the best that I could possibly be,” Pescarino said.

Kiger, Sachs and Pescarino are on track to make it to the State competition and all of Crusader Nation is excited to see how the rest of their season plays out. Be sure to catch the pole vaulters and the rest of the St. Dominic Track and Field team (including me) at their next meet on April 21 at Orchard Farms.
