St. Dominic High School has been blessed with a variety of new technology this past year that provides many student-led opportunities, with two senior boys leading the way and completely changing the way St. Dominic runs. Jacob Jones and Ethan Coutts have impressed not only their fellow classmates, but the faculty as well, including Mr. Small, St. Dominic’s director of technology.

Jones and Coutts have led all of the livestreams and commentating setups and even been able to help teachers and staff learn how to work their computers in the classroom. Surprisingly, these two seniors haven’t always known how to work the ins-and-outs of a computer. They figured it all out by themselves!

“I learned everything about computers by messing with them when I’m bored. I always tell my friends that if you want to learn about technology, play with it until you break it, then fix it before anyone finds out. That’s how I’ve learned everything,” Jones said.

Jones and Coutts spend countless hours at St. Dominic setting up live streams and lights/audio for the many school plays and musicals, and filming all of the house competitions held at St. Dominic. Jones even puts on his own spectacular light shows around the holidays at his house, and together, they used all new audio and music at the winter formal as Crusader DJs.

With this much talent for understanding technology, Coutts and Jones even want to carry this on in their futures. Jones is planning on going to Lindenwood to study Technical Theatre and Design, with an emphasis in lighting, while Coutts plans to study mass communication with an emphasis in broadcasting at Lindenwood as well.

“My favorite part about technology is just how versatile it is. You can almost always find a piece of technology to do something for you. I really enjoy working with technology at Dominic, because they have a lot of really cool things to mess around with,” Coutts said.

Without the help of these two seniors, the broadcasting and theater programs wouldn’t be where they are today. The two have been working closely with the underclassman to teach them everything before they graduate and might even come back to help out! Whenever you see a broadcast, livestream or musical, make sure to remember these two seniors who make it all happen!
