Valentine’s Day Disasters

Valentine's Day Disasters

Though Halloween was months ago, there can still be endless fears when approaching February 14. Usually more things go wrong than they do right on this day. Whether you’re in a long-term relationship, just “talking,” or something in between, this holiday has endless possibilities for disaster.

Mistake and misfortune can strike even the best of us on Valentine’s Day, leading to some embarrassing experiences. Though humiliating at the time, luckily most of us can look back on these terrible Valentine’s Day stories and laugh.

“I’ve had a boyfriend for the past two years, but I’ve never had a Valentine’s Day because he’s dumped me the week before the 14th, twice now. I really don’t know why; we’re still trying to figure that out. But, he admitted to me he was broke so he probably just didn’t want to buy chocolates,” said an anonymous St. Dominic junior girl.

“My boyfriend broke up with me on Valentine’s Day, so I had to go buy flowers and chocolates for myself. I mean, I got to go buy good flowers and chocolates for myself. And I’m totally pro-Galentine’s Day because I usually like my friends way better than my boyfriend anyway,” said senior Kassidy Louvall.

Sometimes boys just can’t handle the pressure of a box of chocolates. However, contrary to popular belief, it’s not always the guys who are the problem. Sometimes girls can have a side to them that’s not really in the spirit of the holiday either.

“There was this boy I really liked and he liked me, but he dumped me out of nowhere. Then on Valentine’s Day, when you could buy a flower for someone, he asked me to the Valentine’s dance with one of them. So, I took the flower and told him yes, and the next day I changed my mind and told him no. I also kept the flower. It was so mean, but you know he hurt my feelings. And I mean it was junior high, you got to do what you got to do,” said librarian Mrs. Nikki Playle.

Much like Mrs. Playle, most of our stories from middle school or younger aren’t those of Romeo and Juliet.

“In fifth grade my secret admirer gave me a box of chocolates and it was already half eaten,” said senior Lauren Basse.

These Valentine’s Day horror stories don’t always come from a significant other either, and sometimes it’s even worse that way.

“When I was in first grade my family got a chocolate lab puppy on Valentine’s Day. He had a big pink heart bow and everything. But, on the ride home he peed everywhere. Like, really everywhere, including all over myself,” said sophomore Abbey Jennings.

No matter what precautions you take, there will always be room in this holiday for disaster. Spent either with your significant other, your best gal pals or your furry friends, Valentine’s Day still holds endless opportunity for disarray. But, so does every other day of your life. If you are particularly nervous about this holiday, just remember that you live 364 days a year perfectly happy, so don’t forget to live February 14th that way too.
