Making Christmas Break Merry and Bright

Despite the dreaded semester finals coming up, Christmas break is slowly but surely stepping out from behind our books and iPads. With this much-needed break comes time for family, friends and a few new traditions that should be added to everyone’s to-do list this Christmas season.

1) Celebration of Lights at Fort Zumwalt Park:

For 25 years, local businesses, churches and organizations have put on the magical Celebration of Lights at Fort Zumwalt Park in O’Fallon. Whether you decide to view the lights by train, wagon or sleigh on Monday nights or drive through by car on other nights, you will be transported into a beautiful land of all things Christmas. Every scene is designed and funded by locals and includes familiar faces such as the Charlie Brown and Frozen characters. To top it all off, they have a radio station to tune in to for guests to sing along to Christmas classics. It costs $10 per car and is open until December 30. It is the perfect way to get into the Christmas spirit and support our local community, too! For more information, check out their website at http://www.ofallon.mo.us/celebration-of-lights.

2) Winterfest Ice Rink at The Meadows:

If you are looking for a night of fun with friends or family, the Winterfest Ice Rink at The Meadows in Lake Saint Louis is the perfect option! Despite its small size, this pop-up rink is a great place to spend time with loved ones. They have a fire pit to stay warm and a Kona Ice Concession stand that sells hot chocolate and a variety of foods. To make an entire night out of it, you can even spend some time shopping at The Meadows or just looking at the beautiful Christmas lights they have displayed along their buildings. General admission is $7 and skate rental is $5. It is open from now until January 31. Make sure you check out this great rink if you’re in the mood to have a blast and skate the night away! Whether you decide to shop at the local boutiques or simply take a stroll along the cobblestone streets, you will not be disappointed. Throughout the holidays, St. Charles holds special traditions in the downtown area that add even more cheer to the scene. From readings of “‘Twas the Night Before Christmas” to the Santa parade, they provide a plethora of events that are perfect to attend with family and friends.
