Austin Ryan, sophomore at Dominic, has been a varsity basketball player since his freshman year. After playing football Austin has become a key player for the St. Dominic varsity basketball team.
After the football season, Austin quickly turned his focus to basketball. He had no problem hitting the ground running, even though basketball is a high pressure game Austin continues to keep pushing with the support of his trainer and family.
“ I would say my mom, dad, and brother have helped me the most along the way. They have always supported me and been by my side pushing me to continue to be the best version of myself. Another person is my trainer Chaz Glotta,” Ryan said.
From the young age of four, Ryan has always wanted to play basketball. His positive attitude and leadership skills on and off the court have made an effect on everyone. Ryan is seen as a very key player, making sure he’s always hyping up his teammates and being a leader.
“ I started playing basketball when I was about four. I would go watch my older brother play in his basketball games. He is the real reason I started playing,” Ryan said.
Ryan has been on varsity for both his freshman and sophomore year and is an outstanding leader who is always there for his teammates. Ryan is a dominating player who is one of the point guards for the Crusaders, who has an impressive 153 points. The competitive nature of basketball, both physically and mentally, keeps Ryan playing at the top of his game as well as his teammates and his coaches.
“I’ve grown to love the sport of basketball through my coaches, my teammates, and the competitive nature of the sport,” Ryan said.
Just recently, the Crusaders competed in the Fort Zumwalt North Invitational, showcasing their skills and determination on the court. As one of the team’s point guards, Ryan plays a crucial role in leading the offense, distributing assists, and creating scoring opportunities for both himself and his teammates. In the game against Priory last Friday, Ryan helped bring the team to victory by scoring 19 points.
There’s no doubt that Ryan is a key and valuable player that strives to help lead and motivate the boys basketball team to be better and win. Even though he is only a sophomore he has lots to come in his future.
